Salary: USD 70,000 - 90,000 per year. This is a full-time, onsite role located in Glastonbury, CT. Work location is in person.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of integrated HVAC, lighting, and building automation systems from concept through installation and commissioning.
• Create system schematics, control sequences, panel layouts, and network diagrams.
• Select and configure hardware and software, including controllers, relays, gateways, sensors, PLCs, BMS, and HMIs.
• Collaborate with sales engineers, project managers, field engineers, and contractors to ensure designs meet specifications and performance goals.
• Prepare and maintain BOMs, wiring diagrams, and detailed submittal packages.
• Develop precise design drawings and submittals for installation and commissioning teams.
• Manage document version control within Smartcon's project management systems.
• Define and implement interfaces across HVAC, lighting, access control, guestroom management, and IoT platforms.
• Support software configuration and integration for PLC, SCADA, and BMS systems.
• Participate in testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of control systems.
• Act as a technical liaison with clients, providing engineering expertise and timely communication.
• Support project managers and field engineers throughout the project lifecycle from concept to commissioning.
• Contribute to design reviews, technical meetings, and quality control evaluations.
• Ensure installed systems perform to design intent and deliver measurable results.
• Maintain compliance with local and national electrical and building codes.
• Apply best practices for system safety, cybersecurity, and energy efficiency in all designs.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience designing or integrating Building Automation, Controls, or HVAC systems.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical for design and documentation.
• Strong working knowledge of PLCs from Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Honeywell, and Schneider, plus SCADA/BMS platforms.
• Familiarity with communication protocols including BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, and Niagara Framework.
• Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with clients, field teams, and cross-functional project stakeholders.
• Experience with Lutron systems is required, with at least 1 year of exposure.
