Job Description

The Research & Development Engineer is responsible for planning, conducting, and directing major engineering R&D projects related to electric power systems. The role involves developing innovative solutions, applying advanced techniques, and interfacing with customers while representing Basler Electric as needed. This on-site position is based in Highland, IL, with a salary range of USD 131,000 to 150,500 per year. A BSEE degree or equivalent and a minimum of 10 years of experience are required.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and proposes innovative concepts for advanced protection and control of electrical power systems.
  • Assists customers and fellow engineers in performing simulations and power system studies.
  • Drafts detailed engineering specifications and proposals, incorporating protection and control algorithms.
  • Designs protection and control systems and develops software for embedded applications.
  • Develops models, algorithms, and proposals for protection and control to support project estimating and quoting for products used in power systems.
  • Assists in establishing design criteria to meet customer requirements for new products.
  • Directs and/or tests design concepts through simulation or prototyping, conducting design reviews as needed.
  • Directs and/or records design test data for traceability and analysis.
  • Conducts periodic reviews of the total design concept to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Documents the theory of operation for developed systems and concepts.
  • Proficient with industry-standard simulation tools used in power engineering.
  • Represents Power Systems engineering to internal divisions and externally to customers, government agencies, professional organizations, and the broader industry Basler Electric serves.
  • Participates in industry organizations to support and promote Basler Electric and its target markets.
  • Supervises and coordinates other engineers and technicians as assigned to specific projects.
  • Travels as necessary to develop or support business opportunities, new product solutions, technology, existing products, and application expertise.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • BSEE degree or equivalent
  • 10 years of experience in electrical power systems protection and control design and/or analysis
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
