Position: Senior Electrical Engineer, PE (Power and Lighting Design) | Location: Hybrid remote in Columbus, OH 43215

Overview

Advanced Engineering Consultants (AEC) seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer and Project Manager with a minimum of ten years of experience to lead electrical system design for commercial and institutional projects. The role emphasizes power distribution, lighting, and low‑voltage design from concept through construction documentation, in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The Senior Electrical Engineer will provide technical leadership, drive project delivery, and mentor junior staff, ensuring compliance with codes, project requirements, and client expectations. Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor staff while performing project work including construction documents for electrical systems in commercial, healthcare, educational, and institutional buildings.
  • Prepare electrical calculations and develop power distribution layouts, including switchgear, transformers, panelboards, feeders, and branch circuits.
  • Create electrical one-line diagrams, panel schedules, load calculations, and power studies.
  • Design and coordinate emergency and standby power systems, such as generators and uninterruptible power supplies.
  • Support the design of low‑voltage systems, including fire alarm, communications, and security infrastructure.
  • Design interior and exterior lighting systems with photometric analysis and energy‑compliant layouts and lighting controls.
  • Coordinate with internal and external subconsultants from other disciplines for equipment power and control needs.
  • Perform field verification of existing systems for renovation projects.
  • Write and edit technical specifications to reflect project requirements.
  • Communicate with manufacturer representatives to identify suitable solutions for applications.
  • Prepare design deliverables for required owner submittals at SD, DD, and CD stages.
  • Manage project construction administration including responses to RFIs, submittal reviews, bulletins, contractor change orders, field visits, and punch trips for installation verification.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Lead electrical engineering efforts on projects from schematic design through construction administration, including project and client management.
  • Prepare proposals for clients as the lead A/E or as a sub‑consultant.
  • Coordinate with company team leads to optimize resource use and deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Review designs prepared by others as part of AEC's QA/QC process.
  • Maintain internal design standards and quality control procedures.
  • Participate in meetings with clients, authorities having jurisdiction, and other professionals as required.
  • Engage in business development activities, participate in trade organizations, and assist with presentations as needed.

Qualifications

Must Haves

  • Ten or more years of electrical design and project management experience for buildings.
  • Demonstrated experience with power distribution and lighting systems for buildings.
  • Working knowledge of design and analysis software such as Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, Easypower, Visual, and similar tools.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA guidelines and codes, and energy codes.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electrical system studies such as short circuit, over‑current coordination, and Arc Flash Hazard analysis per NFPA 70E.
  • Ability to guide staff in project communications and client management.
  • Proficiency in standard construction practices and collaborating with contractors to resolve construction issues.
  • Experience designing Federal DOD, State, Municipal, Healthcare, Commercial, Public Sector, Education, and/or Institutional projects.

Salary

Annual compensation range is $115,000.00 to $130,000.00.
