Senior Lead Software Engineer Java/Python
Job Description
JPMorganChase is hiring a Senior Lead Software Engineer to lead end-to-end delivery of cloud-native software solutions in Finance Technology (RAPIDS). This role provides technical coaching across multiple teams while building backend, full-stack, data, and AI/ML capabilities on AWS and Databricks.
Role Overview
As a senior engineering leader, you will set the direction for engineering execution and serve as a technical owner for key services. You will guide teams in scaling enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices and automation across the Software Development Life Cycle to improve throughput, quality, and operational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall direction, oversight, and coaching for a team of entry-level to mid-level software engineers working on basic to moderately complex tasks
- Be accountable for decisions that affect team resources, budget, tactical operations, and execution of processes and procedures
- Set and scale operating practices for enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering and SDLC/TLM automation across multiple teams to improve delivery speed, quality, and operational outcomes, including measurable expectations such as throughput, defect reduction, and reliability
- Ensure consistent validation, security, resiliency, and reuse of proven patterns
- Use knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle toolchains, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to increase efficiency and support capacity unlock initiatives with a focus on reusing existing firm technology assets
- Ensure effective collaboration across teams and stakeholders
- Identify and mitigate issues to execute the book of work, escalating issues when necessary
- Provide input to leadership on budget, approach, and technical considerations to improve operational efficiency and functionality for the team
- Lead end-to-end design and development from requirements through production deployment and support
- Act as a technical owner for key components and services, driving architecture, code quality, performance, resilience, and security
- Build and maintain backend services using Java/Python, including Spring, and modern API patterns
- Deliver full stack capabilities with front-end development in React and integration with backend APIs
- Design and implement data pipelines and processing solutions using Databricks (Spark-based patterns) and cloud data services
- Build cloud-native solutions on AWS, leveraging services such as EMR, Glue, ECS/EKS, RDS, Lambda, and Step Functions
- Design, integrate, and operationalize AI/ML and LLM-powered features (for example retrieval workflows, copilots/assistants, and automation) with engineering rigor including testing, monitoring, and governance alignment
Required Qualifications
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience; plus 2+ years of experience leading technologists to manage and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
- Experience leading teams of technologists
- Ability to guide and coach teams on execution aligned to strategic initiatives
- Experience leading multi-team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and delivery tools, including defining governance and ways of working (human-in-the-loop validation, quality gates), measuring outcomes, and ensuring secure handling of sensitive inputs and outputs
- Strong understanding of responsible AI in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, resiliency and security implications, and control expectations, with the ability to coach managers and influence leaders on safe scaling patterns
- Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
- Strong hands-on coding experience with Java and/or Python, including Spring for backend service development
- Full stack development experience, including React and modern web development practices
- Practical cloud-native engineering experience, including deployment and operations on AWS
- Experience with AWS (EMR, Glue, ECS/EKS, RDS, Lambda, Step Functions)
- Experience with data engineering/ETL and distributed processing, including Databricks (Spark, jobs/workflows, Delta patterns)
- In-depth knowledge of the services industry and their IT systems
