Job Description

Work on a Node.js engineering role in Friendly, MD with onsite expectations and a strong focus on detection, interoperability, and accessibility constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Apply a multi-layer marking approach by combining two layers of signed and timestamped metadata with an imperceptible watermark embedded in the content.
  • Build and provide a detection solution free of charge, available as one or more of the following: a public specification, distributable software, or an API, and make it open to the public.
  • Support the limits for watermarking by ensuring content under 200 tokens is handled as outside the watermarking obligation.
  • Implement a binding interoperability solution for detection mechanisms by 2 February 2027.
  • Ensure disclosure specifications are followed, including:
    • Label consists of the capitalised acronym “AI”.
    • Use a freely available EU icon with “AI GENERATED” and “AI MODIFIED” variants.
  • Apply accessibility rules in every case, including:
    • European Accessibility Act compliance.
    • WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
    • Screen-reader detectability.
    • Haptic cues for audio.
  • Handle labeling duty boundaries for AI-generated published text by recognizing it falls outside labeling once it:
    • has been through human review, and
    • has an identified natural or legal person taking editorial responsibility,
    • with contact details published under Article 50(4).

Requirements

  • Use Node.js to deliver detection and interoperability capabilities aligned with the stated framework obligations.
  • Ensure delivered features support the specified compliance boundaries, including watermarking exemptions (content under 200 tokens) and labeling duty exceptions (Article 50(4) conditions).
  • Implement detection mechanisms that can interoperate via the required interoperability solution by 2 February 2027.
  • Design outputs to meet European Accessibility Act and WCAG 2.1 Level AA, including screen-reader detectability and haptic cues for audio.

Location

  • Friendly, MD (onsite)
