Signal Processing Engineer
Job Description
CoVar is seeking a Signal Processing Engineer to join its on-site team in Durham, NC. This role focuses on developing and refining RF signal processing algorithms and software for real-world applications, conducting simulations and validation with real data, and presenting findings to DoD and industry customers.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and optimize RF signal and array processing algorithms for detection, localization, tracking, channel estimation, beamforming, and spectral analysis.
- Process RF datasets to detect signals, classify objects, track targets, estimate parameters, and recognize patterns.
- Develop simulation models (Python, MATLAB) and port algorithms to real-time platforms such as FPGAs, GPUs, or Software-Defined Radios (SDRs).
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate digital signal processing algorithms into RF systems and ensure end-to-end performance.
- Conduct laboratory and field tests to verify system performance under varied operational conditions.
- Stay current with emerging RF technologies, advanced signal processing techniques, and industry best practices.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for both internal teams and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in RF signal processing or a closely related discipline.
- Strong programming proficiency in Python, C/C++, or MATLAB.
- Experience in RF signal processing, electronic warfare, optimization, array processing, machine learning, adaptive signal processing, AI/ML algorithm development, radar modeling, and RF propagation.
- Ability to work with cross-functional engineering teams and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
- On-site work in Durham, NC with relocation assistance available.
- Eligibility for U.S. security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with radar signal processing in DoD contexts, including electronic warfare techniques such as electronic support measures, attack, protection, and cognitive EW
- AI/ML algorithm design for computer vision, reinforcement learning, and natural language processing
- Spectrum monitoring and signal classification using machine learning
- Ability to translate DoD mission needs into end-to-end technical solutions
- Proposal development and writing experience
- Familiarity with FPGA or GPU acceleration for high-performance DSP
- Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded or real-time applications
- Active U.S. security clearance
