Job Description

Nokia is expanding its Nokia 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) team to support network flexibility and operational automation through applied R&D and embedded software development. This role focuses on researching, architecting, and delivering software features with clear ownership from design through implementation.

Role Overview

Software Engineers on the Nokia 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) team work across the product lifecycle, including research, software architecture, and feature development. The position emphasizes ownership of designing and implementing capabilities within a functional area, along with integration and verification of software and system components.

Responsibilities

  • Research, architect, design, develop, and test software for products, services, systems, and tools.
  • Define, create, integrate, verify, and modify software and system components.
  • Use innovative solutions to meet customer requirements and specifications.
  • Apply principles and techniques from computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis.
  • Demonstrate strong technical aptitude and communication skills to become an expert for a key system component, with complete ownership of feature design and implementation in the assigned functional area.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience using AI LLM, C++, SDL, and C++ boost libraries.
  • Development experience in C++ on Linux systems, including associated compilers and debuggers.
  • A demonstrated track record of delivering high-quality object-oriented software.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced cross-functional R&D environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing device drivers or BSP software.
  • Knowledge of optical devices, OTN, Ethernet, or TDM protocols.

Location and Team Context

This position is based in Murray Hill, New Jersey and is listed as United States (onsite). Nokia 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) team is expanding, and the role supports development efforts within the Switched WDM product group.
