- A dynamic HVAC Products Engineering team working on the latest U.S. market products. The R&D team is expanding in water heating for domestic and space heating, unitary products (A coil and furnace), AHU, VRF, FCU, and Chiller, with collaboration with the Korea-based R&D team for ODM activities and internal design of HVAC accessories and components.
The Opportunity
Location for this role is Alpharetta, GA. LG Electronics is expanding its Research and Innovation capabilities and seeks a Product Development Engineer to join the Alpharetta-based R&D Center. The Product Development Engineer will develop expertise in the manufacturing and development of LG HVAC equipment to deliver greater value to customers, conducting research and development grounded in analytical thinking and market understanding.
Responsibilities and activities
- Support New LG NPI Product Development initiatives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, manufacturing and program managers to ensure on-time product launches using the NPI process.
- Evaluate go-to-market strategy and review technical documents for proper North America launches, including the United States and Canada.
- Work closely with the project team to ensure sound engineering principles in design and benchmark against competitors to guide improvements and performance.
- Provide engineering insight and improvement solutions for new product development.
- Screen and analyze new product performance and offer recommendations for next steps.
- Statistically evaluate and interpret collected product data.
- Assess data from field-based testing using statistical approaches.
- Identify weaknesses by reviewing shortcomings and faults in current designs to prompt improvements.
- Apply a deep understanding of hardware and software to create acquisition models for lab purposes.
- Prepare service manuals, installation manuals and engineering manuals for US commercialization after product launch.
- Coordinate with product support engineers on technical reviews for new and existing products and materials.
- Support other teams in creating and reviewing catalogs, brochures, submittals, guide specifications, and engineering manuals, among other materials.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- 8+ years of experience in HVAC, water heating, and/or unitary products.
- Experience with VRF, Acoil, AHU, FCU, and Chiller is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of vapor compression and heat transfer principles related to HVAC systems.
- Experience in the design and development of evaporators, condensing units, and/or heat exchangers for residential and commercial applications.
- Exposure to diverse manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability.
- Ability to multi-task and operate independently.
- Experience with one of the following agency certifications (CSA, UL, or DOE) is a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal problem solving and analytical skills.
- 3D CAD software knowledge and the ability to interpret drawings with GD&T understanding.
- Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
