Supervising Engineer (TDO)

The City of Houston invites experienced engineers to lead in Transportation & Drainage Operations as a Supervising Engineer (TDO). This onsite role offers a competitive salary range of USD 113,542 - 121,291 per year, a position classified as a Safety Impact role within Houston Public Works Emergency Management at Tier II, and the opportunity to shape engineering design, coordinate projects and contracts, and mentor staff and external partners. Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate personnel in the development of engineering design and other technical services.
• Prepare and review hydraulic and hydrologic studies, construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical correspondence, reports, and project schedules.
• Manage the implementation of projects and contracts.
• Provide technical training and guidance to other technical staff.
• Offer technical support to operation and maintenance staff.
• Interpret applicable codes and regulations.
• Collaborate with various City of Houston service lines and departments, TIRZs, and other public agencies.
• Investigate and/or respond to inquiries from technical personnel, regulatory agencies, and the public.
• Liaise with consultants and contractors, both directly and indirectly.
• Lead and coordinate special projects.
• Prepare administrative documents and correspondence such as reports, letters, forms, procedural guidelines, and schedules.
• Review and monitor work activities performed by external consultants and internal staff.
• Analyze work processes and implement improvements to drainage infrastructure, equipment, and systems.
• Perform and oversee other technical work related to drainage infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science from an approved curriculum, or graduation from an engineering or related science program and passage of the eight-hour Fundamentals of Engineering examination.
• A Master’s degree can substitute for up to two years of the experience requirement.
• Six years of active engineering practice after graduation, with one year as a licensed Professional Engineer or in a Project Manager role or higher after licensure.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas; a specific branch may be required.
• Out-of-state engineers must be hired under supervision of a Texas-licensed PE and must obtain Texas PE licensure within six months of hire for continued employment.
• May require a valid Texas driver’s license and compliance with driving policy AP 2-2.

Working Conditions

The position is based in a standard office environment with typical comfort levels and onsite duties. It is part of the Houston Public Works Emergency Management program at Tier II.
