Job Description
UI/UX Design Engineer role for the Case Management Modernization (CMM) Program, partnering design and engineering to deliver accessible, efficient experiences with production-ready React code.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product Owners, UI Architects, Developers, and HCD Specialists to turn research insights into actionable design specifications.
- Bridge design and engineering by translating high-fidelity prototypes into responsive, accessible, performant front-end applications and reusable UI components in React.
- Apply Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles to ensure designs align with program objectives and Agile ceremonies.
- Define and enforce UI/UX and front-end coding standards to support consistency and reusability.
- Assess designs for compliance with Section 508, usability expectations, and WCAG accessibility guidelines.
- Support iterative feedback through rapid prototyping and validation during sprint cycles.
- Advise on UI consistency, interaction design, and opportunities to reuse design system patterns.
- Work with Quality Assurance and Compliance teams to verify usability and accessibility in production releases.
Requirements
- 8+ years of UI/UX design development experience, including 5+ years in a Human-Centered Design role supporting enterprise or government applications.
- Strong understanding of Agile/SAFe delivery and iterative design integration.
- Expertise in usability testing methods such as heuristic evaluations, card sorting, and A/B testing (etc.).
- Proficiency with design and prototyping tools: Figma, Sketch, Storybook, Axure, Miro (or similar).
- Strong React proficiency, including reusable functional components, component state and props, responsive UI implementation, and integrating components into production applications.
- Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript/TypeScript, with the ability to convert UI/UX designs into production-ready React interfaces.
- Strong experience with Sass or other CSS preprocessors.
- Experience designing for federal systems, with practical knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG compliance.
- Excellent storytelling and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Design, or a related field.
- Experience designing for federal digital modernization programs or court/case management systems.
- Familiarity with DesignOps and UX governance practices.
- Exposure to data-driven UX optimization using Google Analytics and Hotjar.
- Understanding of Zero Trust Design and secure user interface principles.
- Knowledge of AI-assisted UX tools or predictive usability models.
- Preferred: Certified Usability Analyst (CUA) or Certified HCD Professional.
- Preferred: SAFe Agile Practitioner (SPC or SSM).
- Highly desirable: Section 508 Trusted Tester Certification.
- Beneficial: UX Design or HCD Certification (NN/g, IDEO, or HFI).
- General experience: 10+ years in information systems.
- Specialized experience: 8+ years.
- Minimum education: BA/BS. Experience may be considered in lieu of degree: HS (16+ years), AA/AS (14+ years), BA/BS (12+ years), Doctorate Degree/Ph.D. (9+ years).

Compensation
- Salary range: USD 128,039 - 173,229 per year
- Salary is set based on experience, geographic location, and possibly contractual requirements, and could fall outside the stated range.
