Analytical Instrumentation Service Engineer
Job Description
Analytical Instrumentation Service Engineer position in East Lyme, CT, focusing on servicing and maintaining HPLC, GC, and related analytical instrumentation while supporting customers.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and calibrations to ensure equipment runs efficiently and meets manufacturers specifications.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, fluidic, vacuum, and optical system issues.
- Troubleshoot chromatography problems such as pressure fluctuations, baseline noise, peak resolution challenges, or detector errors.
- Communicate effectively with customers and internal teams regarding service activities.
- Provide maintenance and support for multiple vendor instruments and software systems.
- Ensure adherence to quality system procedures and Health and Safety standards.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related field preferred.
- 2 to 5 years of experience servicing or operating analytical laboratory instrumentation in the listed categories.
- Strong understanding of analytical instrumentation, electronics, fluidics, and vacuum systems.
- Previous customer service or direct client interaction experience is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service documentation.
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance procedures for chromatography systems and related areas.
- Excellent attention to detail and data integrity; strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.
- Effective communication with customers, technicians, and management.

Position Summary
ALT is expanding its service department in East Lyme, CT and seeks a dedicated Analytical Instrumentation Technician for a long-term, in-house role. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Service Manager and Senior Service Engineer to support a growing portfolio of refurbished lab equipment and field-service activities.
