Job Description

Location: Warren, PA 16365

Position Purpose

Lead Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering design, support, management, and implementation for the refinery's electrical & instrumentation infrastructure, both new and existing. The role also provides engineering support to maintenance and operations to preserve the refinery's electrical integrity and minimize downtime of equipment and daily operational activities.

Position Description - Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead design work and project management for all new Electrical & Instrumentation projects, including AutoCAD electrical drawings, electrical bid packages, ordering of items and components, and coordinating electrical contractors and plant maintenance personnel.
  • Provide electrical knowledge and support to the refinery's existing electrical infrastructure. This work may require knowledge of high voltage electrical substations, AC motors and control circuits, lighting, and other power requirements for various electrical equipment.
  • Design and install equipment with voltages ranging from 34,500 Volts to 120/240 Volts on the AC side and instrumentation side voltages in the 12 to 24 VDC ranges. Include startup and checkout assistance, and power outage support as part of project execution.
  • Develop new design ideas, drive project implementation, assist with startup and checkout, and provide power outage support.
  • An understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) is required for new designs and installations.
  • Coordinate various power switching and outages, and perform new electrical equipment tie-ins, electrical safety and startup procedures.

Competencies/Skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong aptitude and understanding of the principles of power and control systems and networks
  • Well-rounded knowledge of industry standards and practices
  • Fluent in PC software, especially Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD
  • Ability to quickly comprehend technical requirements and resolve issues to meet refinery and project guidelines
  • Ability to communicate with coworkers in Operations, Maintenance, Safety, Inspection, and Senior Management
  • Ability to participate and present information in meetings with peers and Senior Management

Work Environment

Daily activities are based in an office environment, with regular interaction and participation in activities that require presence in a shop or field environment. Some periods may exceed 40 hours per week, including weekends.

Physical Demands

Moderate; field activities can include entry into confined spaces, navigating among field equipment and piping, and ladder or stair access to structural platforms. Exposure to construction areas is common, and field activities require appropriate PPE.

Programs/Equipment Used

Position requires extensive use of computer and calculator. Software used includes Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.

Education

High school or equivalent required.

Required Education and Experience

B.S. in Electrical Engineering

Preferred Education and Experience

B.S. in Electrical Engineering; 0 - 10 years of electrical engineering experience
