Field Service Engineer
Job Description
AMETEK-CAMECA seeks a Field Service Engineer to install, service, and repair advanced scientific instruments at customer sites worldwide. This role combines hands-on fieldwork with technical support and training to ensure reliable operation of Atom Probe systems and related equipment.
Based in Fitchburg, Wisconsin with hybrid work options, the position carries a salary between USD 90,000 and 115,000 per year and requires an associate degree in electronics, electro-mechanical, or a related field.
Responsibilities
- Install, service, and repair high-end scientific equipment at customer sites worldwide.
- Provide technical support to end users and instrument purchasers.
- Respond promptly to field issues to minimize downtime.
- Assist with the installation of our scientific instruments.
- Perform site inspections prior to installation.
- Conduct factory testing of new Atom Probe instruments and major upgrades.
- Deliver customer training and knowledge transfer.
- Develop and deliver training to Field Service teams on a global scale.
- Conduct skills evaluations of field service team members.
- Develop training materials to support continuous learning.
- Assist in system-level testing of repaired parts for service inventory.
- Provide support for in-house instruments as needed.
- Travel extensively, both domestically and internationally.
Requirements
- Proficient with handheld tools and practical mechanical skills.

- Experience in troubleshooting and problem-solving.

- Experience with vacuum systems (turbomolecular pumps, ion pumps, ion vacuum gauges, cryo-pumps) and familiarity with UHV practices.
- Fundamental electronics knowledge and ability to use diagnostic tools (oscilloscopes, TDRs, multimeters).
- Experience with lasers and optical components; basic laser safety understanding.
- Experience with electrical and electromechanical systems (high voltage, power distribution, UPS, pneumatics, transducers, motors).
- Computing skills, including networking and general IT tasks.
