Job Description

UT Southwestern is seeking an experienced Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to support Electrical System Operations on the Dallas campus. The role focuses on maintaining and upgrading campus electrical infrastructure, including electrical system documentation, modeling, and expansion of the distribution system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional engineering consultation services related to users' needs, including programming, research, planning, and design.
  • Advise administrators and department chairmen during development of project programs, schematics, preliminary designs, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Prepare plans and specifications for remodeling and adapting existing campus buildings, including electrical, plumbing, and mechanical modifications.
  • Inspect construction sites at intervals to confirm progress, work quality, and alignment with contract documents.
  • Maintain effective working relationships between contractors and in-house staff, and serve as UT Southwestern Medical Center representative for specific projects as needed.
  • Design, implement, and assess internal controls to support effective and efficient operations, safeguard assets, ensure reliable financial information, and support compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide working supervision, training, and guidance to employees when required.
  • Maintain electrical infrastructure along with electrical system documentation and modeling, and upgrade and expand the campus distribution system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with an active Professional Engineer license is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Five (5) years of related experience.
  • (PE) Professional Engineer registered as a Professional Engineer, preferably in Texas, with recertification required in Texas at time of renewal.
  • Five (5) plus years of high voltage work experience, preferably in a hospital or university system, managing, maintaining, and designing critical electrical infrastructure to support continuous, safe, and efficient power.
  • Experience with electrical system modeling using SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, or an equivalent tool.
  • Experience operating and maintaining electrical substations and other high and medium voltage electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience with protection relays, metering, and SCADA.

Work Location and Schedule

  • Dallas Campus; assist other UTSW locations as needed.
  • 100% onsite; remote work not available.
  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
