Job Description

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking a Principal Structural Design Engineer to support the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC. Responsibilities

  • Define the scope of technical programs and develop quality solutions for unique or controversial structural challenges.
  • Creatively apply company and industry requirements, using site systems to deliver quality, timely, and cost-effective results.
  • Provide quality guidance and support to less senior professionals on related tasks.
  • Use specialized structural design and analysis experience, or broader technical knowledge, to resolve complex problems.
  • Incorporate advanced technical practices, including complex requirements, new or special materials or processes, and difficult coordination or oversight needs, into problem solving and planning.
  • Lead in determining solutions to complex problems and serve as recognized expertise within a functional technical area(s).
  • Provide direction and position responsibility across and beyond department lines for programs evaluating new approaches and applications of engineering or scientific principles.
  • Evaluate program results and prepare reports and recommendations based on those evaluations.
  • Identify and recommend improvements when established technology components or methodologies are inadequate for the needed solution.
  • Stay informed on technology advances as applied to the area of specialization.
  • Prepare plans with schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for management-identified technical tasks.
  • Develop and maintain schedules, monitor progress, track budget expenditures, and review the quality of work performed.
  • Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, and management.
  • Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
  • Enhance expertise through leadership in local technical societies.
  • Demonstrate creative engineering contributions through patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, and technical papers and articles.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in an applicable science or engineering discipline with 5+ years of experience OR MS with 8+ years OR BS with 10+ years (or more).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in design and analysis of nuclear or industrial facilities.
  • Working knowledge of STAAD.
  • Working knowledge of National Codes and Standards including IBC, AISC (ASD and LRFD), ACI, AWS, NFPA, and OSHA.

  • MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in MicroStation 2D CADD
  • Previous experience working at SRS
  • Professional Engineering license
