Project Engineer, Electrical

Overview

PDG is seeking a motivated Electrical Project Engineer to join our growing team in Rochester, NY. The role involves designing complete building electrical systems, assigning and reviewing work of junior team members, assisting in schedule development, editing specifications, and receiving general reviews of your work. The Project Engineer should be able to work independently with minimal mentoring and guidance.

Responsibilities

• Design complete building electrical systems for new and renovated buildings, including power, lighting, fire alarm, and other special systems.
• Assign tasks to, coordinate the work of, and review the outputs of entry-level and junior engineers, designers, and technicians.
• Assist in developing schedules and workload requirements for entry-level and junior engineers, designers, and technicians.
• Edit specifications drawn from standard libraries.
• Receive general reviews of all aspects of the work.

Requirements

• Advanced working knowledge of electrical circuit theory and design.
• Advanced understanding of building power distribution.
• Advanced understanding of computer network systems and associated communications infrastructure within buildings.
• Advanced understanding of signals and controls.
• Proficient technical report writing ability with fluency in English.
• Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), CAD proficiency in both AutoCAD and REVIT.
• Familiarity and knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC / NFPA 70).
• Ability to learn new skills and adapt to non routine problems.
• Knowledge and experience with lighting technologies for buildings.
• Six (6) years of experience in design of building electrical systems including power, lighting, fire alarm and special systems.

Experience, Education, and Certification

• Completion of a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Electrical Engineering from an ABET Accredited program.
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and on track for or hold Professional Engineering (PE) certification in New York State.
• PE requirements in New York State, or within one year of obtaining such with a prior EIT.
• A valid driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) are required.

Work Environment and Travel

Travel between Syracuse, Rochester, Binghamton, and Buffalo offices, as well as to project sites, will be required on occasion. Interact with clients and assist with communication and contracts regarding client projects.

Physical Demands

The position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a computer. Travel within New York State will be required.
