Project Engineer II / Project Architect II (3-5 yrs exp)
Job Description
The Project Engineer II / Project Architect II role is an onsite position based in Stamford, CT, guiding investigations, design, and repair initiatives for existing structures across multiple material systems from inception through construction. The role entails direct client and contractor interface within the NYC metropolitan area.
Responsibilities
- Conduct site inspections and condition assessments of multi story commercial and residential buildings, parking structures, and vaulted sidewalk structures
- Perform targeted investigations to evaluate structural distress, material deterioration, and water infiltration issues
- Perform independent building code research for New York, New York City, and Connecticut regulations
- Develop investigative analyses to diagnose causes of failure and deterioration, delivering comprehensive repair recommendations
- Perform and oversee alteration reviews to assess impacts on structural and building systems
- Conduct FISP and PIPS inspections as applicable, including hands on field evaluations and coordination with QEWI and QPSI requirements
- Lead the preparation of complete construction document packages, including drawings, technical specifications, and detailed scopes of work
- Develop repair details for façade systems, parking structures, vaults, and roof assemblies
- Review and coordinate CAD drawings and technical documents prepared by junior staff
- Confirm accuracy of calculations, drawings, and overall design intent
- Serve as the primary point of responsibility for assigned projects from inception through completion
- Lead façade repair, parking structure repair (PIPS), vault and sidewalk, and roof replacement projects
- Conduct site visits, including high rise and scaffold access inspections
- Prepare and issue investigative reports, proposals, and engineering correspondence
- Prepare repair related cost estimates, technical reports, and project schedules
- Manage and execute the full bidding process, including contractor walkthroughs, bid leveling, and coordination of best and final pricing
- Attend client and board meetings to present findings, recommendations, and project updates
- Perform alteration reviews, including review of architectural, structural, and MEP submissions for compliance with building requirements and applicable codes; prepare comment letters and coordinate revisions with design teams
- Provide guidance and oversight to Project Engineers and Project Architects
- Prepare FISP and PIPS reports and upload filings to DOB NOW: Build as applicable
- Prepare building permit applications for submission to NYC DOB, DOT, LPC, DEP to expedite work
- Maintain and track project documentation, government filings, submissions, and regulatory requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or Bachelor of Architecture
- EIT preferred (FE exam passed); progression toward PE or RA license strongly preferred
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated leadership in façade repair, parking structure repair, vault/sidewalk, and roof replacement projects
- Minimum 3 years of experience performing FISP inspections
- Experience with PIPS inspections
- Proven ability to independently prepare complete construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and bid packages
- Strong understanding of applicable building codes and regulatory requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; engineering and business writing is essential
- Experience with DOB code research, filings, and compliance required
- Working knowledge of Vectorworks preferred, or AutoCAD, plus Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Ability to travel throughout the NYC metro area for site visits
- Eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
