Resident Operational Engineer
Job Description
Eletric80 is seeking a Resident Operational Engineer to maintain, operate, and support E80 systems at customer plants. This onsite role blends hands-on equipment work with supervisory and coordination duties to ensure reliable service and high customer satisfaction, based in Chicago, IL. The position emphasizes balanced field activity and cross-functional collaboration to deliver consistent system performance.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary liaison for customer service matters, including asset and system performance, ticket resolution, spare parts inventory, and overall service delivery.
- Maintain timely communication with customers and the Eletric80 back-office to address needs and concerns.
- Coordinate periodic technology update sessions to inform and train the customer’s personnel and managers on Eletric80’s latest technologies and solutions.
- Attend periodic operational and management meetings with the customer’s staff.
- Prepare and share quotes for parts and interventions, guiding the customer to issue purchase orders to the Eletric80 team.
- Allocate technical resources, verify equipment and tools as needed, and manage materials for field services and projects based on requirements and availability.
- Develop and maintain resource schedules for maintenance, field service, retrofit activities, and ticket resolutions to optimize utilization.
- Coordinate with CSAM, supervisor, resident engineers, spare parts team, service coordinators, technicians, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth execution.
- Order spare parts when possible and monitor delivery with the spare parts representative, setting priorities accordingly.
- Enter and manage tickets in Salesforce.
- Coordinate on-site resource interventions for maintenance and ticket resolution of technical aspects.
- Monitor and report on the performance of allocated resources, identifying issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Continuously review and improve resource allocation processes to boost efficiency and productivity.
- Ensure all maintenance, field service, and retrofit activities comply with relevant regulations, standards, and company policies.
- Observe customer behavior and opportunities for alternative service purchases to drive improvements in Eletric80 processes.
- Escalate significant customer issues to the appropriate organization.
- Ensure safety precautions are in place for the safe operation of E80 systems and escalate discrepancies as needed.
- Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting on E80 equipment using diagnostic tools when required.
- Replace, program, and configure E80 electromechanical components as needed.
- Periodically perform engineering and software maintenance tasks, such as LGV/calibration and navigation parameter adjustments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management, or a related field preferred; equivalent maintenance management experience in material handling and industrial machine design/manufacturing will be considered.
- 3+ years of experience in material handling, packaging equipment, robotics, and palletizing with roles in customer service, project management, or asset management.
- Familiarity with industrial equipment design, manufacturing, and maintenance processes is highly preferred.
- Strong technical background with hands-on experience across all technical aspects of an E80 automation system (PLC, PC, LGV, EM).
- CMRT certifications are highly preferred.
- Knowledge of SAP ERP system and Salesforce CRM.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Power Platform.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration abilities with a customer-centric mindset.
