Compensation and travel
Expected compensation: 100,000 to 145,000 USD per year, depending on experience, plus 10% bonus eligibility.
Travel: Approximately 30 to 35 percent of the time, with potential international trips of three or more days per month.
Responsibilities
- Review customer specifications to ensure project requirements align with company capabilities.
- Perform electrical design tasks including PLC programming, hardware selection, HMI development, wiring, and cabinet design.
- Engineer projects by selecting electrical hardware and software, creating detailed plans, and supporting system integration.
- Negotiate design changes with customers and present proposals, reports, and findings.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and production staff to meet customer requirements and specifications.
- Prepare sales estimates for new, rental, service, and surplus contracts; respond to inquiries about electrical controls and instrumentation.
- Assist the Electrical Engineering Manager with training, workload planning, and assignments for junior designers.
- Handle administrative tasks such as drafting reports, creating purchase requisitions, and approving material or service purchases.
- Produce CAD drawings for wiring and cabinet layouts or provide details for CAD staff to create drawings.
- Support rental startup services including installation, follow-up service calls, customer training, and system startup to meet contract requirements.
- Prepare budgets, cost estimates, bids, and contracts for controls and instrumentation for new and existing customers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma required; a B.S. in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
- At least two years of training or experience in automation systems, mechatronics, or electrical technology.
- Experience in process industries is desired, with a preference for water or wastewater sectors.
- Solid technical knowledge of company products and services and the ability to apply it to projects.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to achieve shared goals.
- Excellent interpersonal abilities to build and maintain internal and external customer relationships.
- Ability to contribute to business strategy and make recommendations within the scope of the role.
- Foundational engineering knowledge across mathematics, physics, and practical applications in electrical and related processes.
- Familiarity with power tools, meters, hand tools, computers, and related equipment used in electrical work.
- Design capability to create precise plans, drawings, and models; proficiency with CAD tools is preferred.
- Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, electronics, and programming of control systems.
- Understanding of business principles, resource planning, leadership, production methods, and coordination of teams.
- Customer service awareness, needs assessment, and quality standards focus.
- Awareness of production and processing concepts, including materials, processes, quality control, and cost management.
- Software and systems proficiency, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, controls programming software, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with the technologies used for this role, such as Winman ERP, PLC programming (Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View Studio ME/SE, PlantPAx DCS), Siemens, Red Lion, Maple Systems, and a range of fieldbus protocols (Ethernet/IP, IO-Link, Profibus, Profinet, Modbus, HART, AS-i); CAD tools (AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, Pro-E, SolidWorks); document tools (Adobe Acrobat Pro); and project software (Microsoft Project, Primavera).
Physical requirements
Regular communication and visual tasks are required; frequent walking and use of hands for manipulation; vision requirements include near and far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. May lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Location and environment
Onsite role located in Loves Park, Illinois, with standard office and shop floor exposure and collaboration across multiple teams.
