Job Description
This on-site Software Engineer role supports the Fort Bragg, North Carolina facility, focusing on software development, integration, debugging, and testing of unmanned systems, subsystems, and test platforms for defense applications.
Responsibilities
- Translate concepts into innovative product designs, advancing from concept through research and development to production.
- Collaborate in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers, program managers, suppliers, and customers.
- Develop new software code and implement software configuration and quality practices.
- Develop, configure, and install flight and ground control software for multiple small aviation and ground platforms.
- Assist in selecting microprocessors, microcontrollers, and supporting devices such as memory types and capacities.
- Work with electrical engineering to debug and troubleshoot complex electronic and software designs.
- Build test infrastructure, document processes, and ensure high performance of systems.
- Apply strong critical thinking and problem-solving to address complex technical challenges.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master of Science in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience, with at least five years of embedded software development; aviation systems control experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in C and C++ for software development.
- Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and integration with external hardware such as EEPROM, FPGA, and ASIC is advantageous.
- Experience with semi-autonomous and autonomous systems is beneficial.
- Familiarity with communication protocols including I2C, UART, USB, and MIPI.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Hands-on experience with system integration and testing.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to interact with customers, suppliers, and external personnel.
- Embedded software experience: five years required.
- Applicant must be a US Person.
