Technical Service Engineer
Job Description
The on-site Technical Service Engineer role focuses on installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining industrial rotating equipment and power electronic systems at customer sites.
Responsibilities
- Install, commission, and maintain industrial rotating equipment and power electronic systems at customer sites
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control-system issues involving motors, drives, excitation systems, and related equipment
- Perform field testing, startup support, operational verification, and equipment inspections
- Utilize diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analyzers, vibration instruments, and other test gear
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, control wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings
- Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for equipment failures and operational issues
- Train customers on equipment operation, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures
- Document service activities, including field reports, repairs performed, findings, and parts usage
- Provide field feedback to engineering and manufacturing teams to support product improvement
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and site regulations
- Travel up to 50% domestically and internationally as required to support installations and service calls
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Technology; or a technical degree, or military technical training
- Minimum 5 years of related experience, including customer-facing and/or field service work
- Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks)
- Experience with ERP software such as Epicor or SAP
- Experience in industrial field service, commissioning, maintenance, or technical support
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Working knowledge of industrial motors, drives, excitation systems, or power conversion equipment
- Familiarity with industrial automation systems, PLCs, and electrical control hardware
- Experience reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics
- Ability to work independently in field environments with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication skills for customer interaction and technical reporting
- Hands-on experience with industrial diagnostic and test equipment
- Experience supporting heavy industrial or utility-related equipment is preferred
