Liberty Mutual’s Global Cybersecurity Data and Analytics team is looking for a Principal Data Engineer who can turn complex enterprise data into actionable insights. This onsite role in Columbus, OH supports data architecture, pipelines, and visualization work that helps advance cybersecurity, governance, and compliance, while you apply modern engineering practices across cloud and analytics platforms.
You’ll lead complex data engineering initiatives, collaborate across a range of stakeholders, and use tools like Power BI, Snowflake, AWS Airflow, and Python to deliver reliable data products. The role also emphasizes responsible use of AI tools to increase speed, quality, and scale while protecting confidential and customer data.
Responsibilities
- Consult on designing and developing complex programs and tools for ingestion, curation, and provisioning of enterprise data to support analytics, reporting, and data science.
- Build and design data architecture that improves accessibility, efficiency, governance, and data quality.
- Collect, clean, and transform traditional and big data to maintain accuracy and enable access.
- Recommend improvements to data and drive those recommendations forward.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of technology enablers and document processes, organizational structures, architectures, and external systems.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of solutions for key business outcomes.
- Create interactive, visually appealing data visualizations that help reveal patterns, trends, or correlations across large datasets.
- Provide guidance on Power BI visualization capabilities and functionalities, and educate a wide range of people on visualization usage.
- Actively use AI tools to improve the speed, quality, and scale of work, including critically evaluating and validating AI output and applying AI responsibly to protect confidential and customer data.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical or business discipline (technical degree preferred) or equivalent experience.
- Generally 8+ years of professional experience.
- In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, and methodologies.
- In-depth knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles.
- Knowledgeable in data engineering languages and tools, with proficiency in new and emerging technologies.
- In-depth understanding of layered solutions and designs, including shared data engineering concepts and product features, with a security-minded approach.
- In-depth understanding of business operations, objectives, and strategies, plus global business and technology trends in the financial services industry.
- Strong negotiation, consensus building, influencing, facilitation, and adaptability skills.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills with strong presentation abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
- Solid programming skills in Python (Pandas) and SQL, with analytical and critical thinking skills and understanding of big data technology.
- Understanding of machine learning principles, statistics, and algorithms.
- Understanding of data warehouse solutions, modeling, and governance.

Compensation
USD 120,000 - 225,000 per year.
The typical starting salary range is determined by factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full salary range reflects the competitive labor market value across the national market and allows for progression as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual may include a corresponding compensation plan that can include commission and/or bonus earnings, depending on factors set forth in that plan.
