Building Structural Engineer

Join Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP in the Richmond, VA office and work with a Structural/Marine Group focused on real-world building and waterfront projects. This role combines design work with hands-on field investigations, helping deliver clear concept direction through construction documents.

What you’ll be doing

As an experienced Structural Engineer, you’ll contribute to structural analysis and design across a range of building types and materials. Your work will support clients spanning Federal/Local Government, Industrial, and Manufacturing markets, with deliverables that move from investigation to concept design and onward to construction documentation.

• Perform structural analysis and design for a variety of building types and materials
• Conduct field investigations, develop concept designs, and produce construction documents for client projects
• Support project work across building and waterfront-related assignments

Required qualifications

• 5-10 years of structural design experience
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with Structural Concentration from an ABET accredited program
• Experience using structural design and analysis software (RISA, STAAD, etc.)
• Experience with drafting and modeling software (Revit and AutoCAD)
• Knowledge of building codes and standards (IBC, ASCE, ACI, etc.)
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred qualifications

• Master’s degree in civil engineering with Structural Concentration
• Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
