Structural Design Engineer (5+ Years Custom Residential Experience Required)

Sung Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Structural Design Engineer to support its work on custom residential and related projects in Union City, California. This onsite role centers on structural design, calculations, plan and detail markup, and close coordination with clients, designers, and contractors throughout project lifecycles. The position calls for a hands-on engineer who can translate concepts into buildable structure while collaborating across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural design of construction projects including custom residential homes (new construction and additions/remodels), light industrial/commercial buildings, tenant improvements, retaining walls, and landscape structures.
• Prepare structural calculations, markup structural plans/details, and write specifications/notes for projects ranging from moderate to complex with minimal supervision by staff engineers.
• Coordinate from commencement to completion with Clients, Architects/Designers, Contractors, and other staff to meet project schedules.
• Conduct site/field observations as needed.
• Handle printing/plotting tasks.
• Mentor and assist staff engineers as needed.

Requirements

• B.S. in Civil Engineering with Structural Emphasis
• EIT Certification
• 5+ years of experience in custom residential structural design; familiarity with AutoCAD; knowledge of IBC and CBC
• Self-motivated, detail oriented, highly analytical, and capable of working independently
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; team-oriented
• PE License (Preferred)
