Job Description

Amazon Data Services, Inc. seeks a Data Center Controls Engineer to support the reliability of critical facilities through direct oversight of Building Management Systems and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems across AWS data centers. This onsite role in Bristow, Virginia, emphasizes hands-on troubleshooting, project delivery, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to improve uptime, efficiency, and operational performance.

  • Salary: USD 111,300 - 186,100 per year
  • Minimum experience: 5 years

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot BMS and EPMS issues in AWS data centers, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
  • Educate and assist internal customers and stakeholders in designing, configuring, validating, installing, commissioning, and operating BMS and EPMS systems
  • Provide technical support to operations throughout the data center life cycle
  • Review quarterly maintenance findings for BMS/EPMS and drive resolution of action items
  • Define project scope, schedule, budget, and level of effort for BMS/EPMS initiatives requested by customers and stakeholders
  • Oversee scope, schedule, finances, and execution of BMS/EPMS improvement projects in AWS data centers
  • Support procurement activities including RFQs/RFPs, vendor responses, and issuance of purchase orders
  • Participate in the AWS global on-call rotation to deliver immediate BMS/EPMS technical support to in-service data centers
  • Attend project meetings, coordinate with project leaders, and report status to Controls and stakeholders management
  • Support commissioning activities related to controls projects in data centers
  • Review and refine the sequence of operation (SOO) for controls, providing feedback to the design team
  • Develop and modify control logic programming and operator interfaces
  • Manage multi-stakeholder deliverables and navigate complex requirements
  • Oversee financial aspects of BMS/EPMS service contracts
  • Conduct regular on-site visits to in-operation data centers to troubleshoot, engage with customers, and supervise vendors to ensure scope, design, SOO, and local codes compliance

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience moving new design concepts from exploration through development to deployment or mass production
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, and Windows operating systems
  • Experience with power management and power monitoring systems
  • 5+ years of project management experience in data centers or similar critical infrastructure
  • Knowledge of critical data center equipment
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation, electrical diagrams, and standard operating procedures
  • Understanding of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, or OSHA
  • Experience in Data Center Engineering Operations with deep knowledge of electrical and mechanical data center infrastructure
  • Ability to read and interpret construction specifications and drawings across multiple domains
