Job Description

Amazon Data Services, Inc. is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to lead the testing and validation of essential electrical and mechanical systems within AWS data center facilities. This onsite role in Canton, Mississippi places you at the center of cross-functional collaboration with vendors and internal teams to uphold safety, quality, and timely commissioning across multiple projects. The position blends hands-on technical leadership with a focus on continuous program improvement as data center capacity scales.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee testing and validation of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including evaluation of design documents and equipment submittals.
  • Lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT) activities to verify equipment performance.
  • Manage third-party commissioning vendors during onsite pre-functional, functional, and integrated systems testing.
  • Perform deep technical analyses to resolve issues and address scheduling and coordination impacts on site.
  • Capture and disseminate lessons learned to support team growth and program enhancements.
  • Provide multi-discipline input to project scheduling, test script development, design considerations, and planning.
  • Continuously audit commissioning vendors to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements during the commissioning process.
  • Provide regular progress reporting and commissioning metrics to the Regional Commissioning Manager using AWS project formats.
  • Lead multiple projects simultaneously to meet milestones and deliver data center capacity, while managing budget as approved by Finance.
  • Coordinate with AWS engineering, capacity delivery, operations, and contractor teams to align site activities, prioritize tasks, and ensure clear paths to resolution for issues.
  • Manage the commissioning vendor responsible for executing functional tests, identifying issues, assessing their criticality, proposing solutions, and documenting findings.
  • Escalate turnover risks to the appropriate stakeholders as needed.
  • Share lessons learned with peers and participate in initiatives that advance the commissioning program.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of engineering, installation, startup, or commissioning experience with electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Technologies

  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
  • Factory Witness Testing (FWT)
  • HVAC systems including air handlers, exhaust fans, and variable frequency drives (VFD)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience advancing design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Additional Job Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 80% of the year.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
