Job Description

Based in Grand Forks, North Dakota with hybrid or remote work options, the University of North Dakota College of Engineering & Mines is seeking a Senior Business Development Advisor to lead the North Dakota Manufacturing Ecosystem as a project manager. The role requires travel across North Dakota, offers a salary of USD 95,000 per year, and includes a comprehensive benefits package aimed at supporting professional development and work-life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Project Manager for the North Dakota Manufacturing Ecosystem by building and sustaining collaborative relationships with manufacturers, economic developers, government agencies, and external partners
  • Identify and pursue new client opportunities and service offerings
  • Foster partnerships through meetings and events
  • Conduct sales calls and drive business development efforts
  • Research evolving industry trends
  • Develop in-person relationships with all stakeholders
  • Perform company assessments of North Dakota manufacturers, maintaining accurate CRM data on capabilities, capacities, needs, and solutions
  • Conduct on-site assessments by analyzing business challenges
  • Enter and update CRM records to reflect current information
  • Provide measurable assistance to manufacturers and other industries
  • Facilitate planning sessions and design improvement projects
  • Deliver technical assistance, training, and planning projects that yield measurable client improvements, including strategic and succession planning and implementation of quantifiable solutions
  • Act as the principal account manager for third party training and consulting engagements
  • Assist clients with quantifying benefits and impacts from services and guide them in completing NIST MEP surveys
  • Collect and analyze performance metrics
  • Coach clients on impact reporting
  • Cross-sell services and identify additional client needs to recommend appropriate Impact Dakota offerings
  • Participate in staff meetings, strategic planning sessions, and organizational events
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends to support continuous improvement of client service offerings

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher in business, engineering, finance, human resources, marketing, management, or a related field
  • 10 years of relevant experience leading the development and provision of services to businesses (manufacturing and non-manufacturing)
  • Project management experience, including planning, execution, and performance measurement of complex client engagements
  • Proficiency with personal computers and standard business software (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and database/CRM systems)
  • Experience presenting training, workshops, and executive-level presentations
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel overnight throughout North Dakota as needed
  • Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with manufacturers, economic developers, state/local government agencies, suppliers, and other external partners
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
  • Project management and client account management skills
  • Ability to conduct company assessments and translate findings into actionable recommendations
  • Strong business acumen to identify client needs and propose appropriate services
  • Demonstrated ability to quantify benefits and impacts of services delivered to clients
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting organizational goals
  • Skill in maintaining accurate records in CRM systems
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a multi-client, multi-project environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of working with decision-makers and preparing professional reports and proposals
  • Demonstrated track record of achievement in roles requiring significant accountability and independent judgment
