Senior Substation Engineer
Job Description
Senior Substation Engineer role at Electric Power Systems, Inc. EPS specializes in power system operations, design, and consulting. We serve a diverse client base including independent power producers, utilities, and industrial operations, delivering innovative and practical solutions in substation design and power system studies. We are seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to join our team in Palmer, Alaska; Juneau, Alaska; or Olympia, Washington (ZIP 98502). This position offers the opportunity to contribute to critical energy infrastructure projects across North America and the Pacific in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and review substation layouts, plans and profiles, single-line and three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, grounding layouts, and protective device drawings.
- Conduct engineering studies including short-circuit, grounding, voltage drop, and equipment ratings.
- Develop technical specifications for procurement and construction.
- Coordinate with clients, vendors, and internal teams to manage design deliverables.
- Perform field inspections and support troubleshooting efforts.
- Track project status, respond to client feedback, and ensure design accuracy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), ABET-accredited.
- 7+ years of experience in substation design or related electrical engineering.
- Familiarity with applicable codes including IEEE, NESC, and NEC.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus or willingness to obtain one.
