Applied Information Sciences (AIS) is seeking a Data Engineer (Analytics) to support a federal law enforcement mission. In this contract role located in Virginia (onsite), you will design, develop, and maintain analytics solutions that help teams make informed decisions and improve operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities
- Gather business and technical requirements from stakeholders to support reporting and analytical needs.
- Collect, integrate, and analyze data from multiple structured and unstructured sources.
- Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations aligned to mission objectives.
- Create and optimize scalable, high-performance SQL queries and analytics solutions.
- Research, understand, and combine disparate data sources to produce meaningful insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve data quality and performance issues.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Respond to evolving mission requirements and deliver solutions within established timelines.
- Support continuous improvement of data engineering, analytics, and reporting processes.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DHS 6C Public Trust clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related discipline (relevant experience may be substituted).
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data analytics, business intelligence, or a related field.
- Experience developing reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
- Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational database concepts.
- Experience working with Oracle and/or PostgreSQL databases.
- Experience querying and analyzing data using Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
- Experience integrating and analyzing data from multiple disparate data sources.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work onsite in Washington, DC during core business hours.
What You Will Be Doing
This position is contingent upon contract award. AIS is currently pursuing a proposal and is seeking qualified candidates to include in the submission and support future hiring needs on the program once awarded.
You will apply core knowledge across areas such as advanced data modeling, robust ETL/ELT, and scalable pipeline development using big data technologies like Spark, while enforcing governance and supporting predictive or ML-related solutions. The work includes solving high-complexity integration and performance challenges, delivering custom analytics and automation for scale, setting benchmarks for data quality, and making significant technical decisions with minimal oversight.

Compensation
The targeted base salary range is $110,000-$166,000 per year. The final offer will be based on skillset and competencies, level of experience, education, certifications, and location.
