Naval Platform Engineer
Job Description
MANTECH offers an on-site Naval Platform Engineer opportunity in Portsmouth, VA. In this role, you will support SURFMEPP maintenance planning and lifecycle management for non-nuclear surface ships, collaborating with Port Engineers, Technical Warrant Holders, In-Service Engineering Agents, Ship Design Managers and regional Maintenance Centers. The position provides the chance to influence maintenance and modernization strategies, work with cross-functional teams, and contribute to lifecycle outcomes at leadership levels including SES and Flag.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with Port Engineers, Technical Warrant Holders, In-Service Engineering Agents, Ship Design Managers and Regional Maintenance Centers on all maintenance and modernization matters.
- Validate CMP content through engineering and data analysis; update man-day and material cost estimates based on actual return costs.
- Assist in developing CMP tasks for Program and Fleet Modernization requirements with configuration data for the assigned ship class.
- Coordinate CMP Processing activities, including development, maintenance and monitoring of Baseline Availability Work Packages (BAWPs) and Availability Work Packages (AWPs).
- Validate CMP content by reviewing requirements in JFMM, NSTM, Ship Specifications, technical manuals, instructions and drawings.
- Develop, collate and brief maintenance and modernization documents and strategies to all levels of the maintenance team, including SES and Flag-level.
- Develop and deliver engineered ship-specific Shipsheets in support of Planning, Programming, Budget and Execution (PPBE).
- Conduct detailed reviews of ship CSMP entries to identify requirements, cost elements and impact to availabilities regarding duration and budget.
- Assist in the development and delivery of Technical Foundation Papers for the assigned ship class describing lifecycle maintenance requirements to ensure each ship reaches its Expected Service Life (ESL).
- Assist SURFMEPP Activity and SEA 21 personnel with Congressional, OSD, Force Management and Budget (FMB) inquiries, data calls, reports and similar requests.
- Support the development of metrics for processes and products and ensure alignment with Future Readiness Team / SWE requirements.
- Use metrics to provide recommendations for improvements in the CMP and other SURFMEPP Activity processes and products.
- Maintain the accuracy, content, integrity and accessibility of the Class Maintenance Plan and the Maintenance and Shipwork Planning database for surface ships.
