Job Description
Civil Engineer – Roadway Design in Miami, FL for WSP. Lead design and coordination of civil/highway projects (roads, bridges, drainage, and ITS) for FDOT and municipal clients, with opportunities for growth within the Miami team.
Responsibilities
- Help lead and advance the Civil/Highway design team, providing guidance and mentorship on staff assignments.
- Collaborate with leadership to shape long-range plans and staffing recommendations for projects.
- Steer project tasks across conceptual, preliminary, and final design phases, including construction plans, calculations, and specifications.
- Coordinate with disciplines such as structures, drainage, traffic, and utilities to ensure integrated designs.
- Participate hands-on in the preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E).
- Review and develop complex layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, standards, and correspondence; prepare reports as needed.
- Develop 3D design models, calculations, sketches, plans, and estimates for transportation improvement projects under supervision.
- Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on engineering, design, and construction issues.
- Perform professional civil engineering work involving research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, infrastructure, and transportation channels to ensure compliance with rules and permits.
- Work as part of a multi-discipline team of engineers to execute project work across diverse assignments.
- Complete required training on assigned tasks and procedures.
- Collaborate with engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities funded at Federal, State, regional, and local levels.
- Exhibit responsible and ethical decision-making in line with WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in transportation and infrastructure projects.
- Experience with design teams on FDOT and municipal projects, including civil, highway, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, and structure design.
- Fundamentals in Engineering Certification (EI/EIT).
- Solid knowledge of civil engineering principles, design/build processes, and permitting considerations.
- Developing skills in project and staff management on civil transportation projects.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities for effective engagement with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Proven self-leadership, attention to detail, results orientation, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Aptitude for learning new techniques, multitasking, following instructions, working independently, and adhering to company policies.
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office software, mathematical concepts, spreadsheets, and related tools.
- Experience with discipline-specific design software such as MicroStation and OpenRoads.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to interpret data and derive effective, economical solutions.
