Mastercard is seeking a Software Engineer II to join the Blockchain and Digital Assets Engineering team. The role supports the development and maintenance of Ethereum/EVM and Web3 solutions for global markets in a collaborative Agile environment, with a hybrid schedule based in Arlington, VA.
Role Focus
You will build and support blockchain applications and Web3 integrations, working through the full software development lifecycle. The position emphasizes secure and reliable delivery, collaboration across engineering and product partners, and continuous improvement of engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test, deploy, and maintain blockchain applications, smart contracts, and Web3 integrations within the Ethereum/EVM ecosystem.
- Collaborate with senior engineers, architects, and product teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable solutions.
- Participate in technical design discussions and contribute ideas to address business and technical challenges.
- Translate business requirements into high-quality code aligned with engineering standards and best practices.
- Participate in code reviews, testing activities, and development processes to ensure software quality and maintainability.
- Work closely with product, compliance, security, and engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in development, test, and production environments.
- Contribute to improving engineering processes, automation, tooling, and development practices.
- Develop and support applications running in cloud-native, containerized environments.
- Follow secure coding practices and operational excellence standards throughout development and delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Experience as a Software Engineer, Software Developer, or similar engineering role.
- Experience developing applications using Ethereum/EVM and Web3 technologies such as ethers.js, web3.js, or similar frameworks.
- Working knowledge of Solidity and experience developing or maintaining smart contracts.
- Understanding of blockchain fundamentals, including transactions, wallets, gas concepts, and common security considerations.
- Familiarity with smart contract development frameworks such as Hardhat, Foundry, or similar toolchains.
- Knowledge of software engineering principles, object-oriented programming, and modern development practices.
- Experience with programming languages such as Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with source control systems such as Git and collaborative software development practices.
- Experience building or maintaining automated unit and integration tests.
- Exposure to containerization technologies such as Docker and cloud-native development concepts.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly and contribute effectively in a fast-paced Agile environment.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Commitment to code quality, maintainability, security, and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.

Hybrid Work Location
Hybrid role based in Arlington, VA, requiring three days per week onsite.
Compensation
Arlington, Virginia salary range: USD 106,000 - 169,000 per year.
