Job Description

In Nashua, New Hampshire, on-site at BAE Systems, this Senior Principal Data Analytics Engineer role sits at the intersection of software engineering, data analytics, and business intelligence. The position focuses on converting raw data into actionable insights, building production-grade analytics layers, and guiding the transition to a secure, self-hosted analytics infrastructure that supports high-stakes decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain sophisticated data models within a Medallion Architecture, centering on the Silver and Gold layers to deliver streamlined datasets for end users.
  • Oversee the deployment of dbt core on self-hosted platforms such as Postgres, prioritizing modular design, version control, and CI/CD best practices.
  • Establish and enforce rigorous data lineage and cataloging standards to ensure auditability and traceability of mission-critical KPIs.
  • Collaborate with leadership to craft a data strategy that balances technical debt with rapid analytic value, and design and deploy data tooling in secure, air-gapped, or hybrid-cloud environments to ensure stable updates with limited external connectivity.
  • Tune complex SQL queries and data structures to handle large-scale datasets while maintaining cost-efficiency and performance; optimize the ingestion and transformation of high-velocity telemetry or sensor data to bridge raw engineering data with executive BI.
  • Partner with Data Scientists and Business Analysts to understand requirements and provide clean-room data environments they need to succeed.
  • Serve as the analytics engineering team's technical authority, establishing standards for Python automation and SQL documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent technical experience.
  • 6+ years of professional experience in data or analytics engineering with a proven record of delivering end-to-end analytics solutions.
  • Core Technical Stack:
    • Expert SQL with proficiency in window functions, CTEs, and complex joins.
    • Modern data stack experience with dbt or a comparable transformation tool, including macros, packages, and custom tests.
    • Experience implementing GitOps workflows (GitLab CI/Jenkins) or equivalent for data pipeline deployment.
    • Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.
    • Proven background implementing Data Quality frameworks and automated testing (dbt-tests, Great Expectations, or similar).
    • Experience managing data in Postgres, Snowflake, MySQL, or similar relational databases.
