Software Engineer III - AWS Architecture

This Software Engineer III - AWS Architecture role, within JPMorganChase's Asset & Wealth Management, focuses on designing, developing, and deploying large-scale AWS-based technology solutions across multiple areas to advance the firm’s objectives. The position is onsite in Plano, TX.

Responsibilities

• Handle distributed data processing with Spark, enforce schema governance, and implement data quality controls
• Design and implement messaging patterns using SQS/SNS, dead-letter queues, with attention to idempotency and exactly-once or effectively-once processing
• Tune RDS PostgreSQL performance, implement partitioning strategies, and ensure high availability
• Operate OpenSearch, develop indexing strategies, and optimize for cost and performance
• Establish end-to-end observability through metrics, logs, and traces; maintain on-call readiness and incident response
• Develop and troubleshoot software solutions, applying non-routine approaches to solve complex technical problems
• Create secure, high-quality production code and maintain algorithms that coordinate with relevant systems
• Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications and ensure code adheres to design constraints
• Gather, analyze, synthesize, and visualize data to generate reporting that supports continuous software improvements
• Proactively identify hidden data patterns and issues to drive improvements in coding hygiene and system architecture
• Contribute to software engineering communities of practice and participate in events exploring new technologies

Requirements

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, plus 3+ years of applied experience
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability for large-scale, event-driven AWS architectures using AWS Lambda, Kubernetes/EKS, and ECS for orchestration, scaling, and resiliency
• Design and develop serverless systems (Lambda), with strategies for cold-start mitigation and improved observability
• Design, implement, and operate large-scale, event-driven AWS architectures
• Experience with AWS Lambda, Kubernetes/EKS, and ECS for workload orchestration, scaling, and resiliency
• Proficiency with serverless patterns using AWS Lambda and messaging patterns such as SQS/SNS and DLQs
• Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment using one or more modern programming languages and database query languages
• Hands-on experience with RDS PostgreSQL performance tuning, partitioning, and high availability
• Solid understanding of agile methodologies, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security
• Knowledge of software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline such as cloud, AI/ML, or related fields
