Job Description

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Design Engineer / Principal Design Engineer CSA - Civil Engineer to shape civil and structural design, modeling, and integration for Sentinel Launch Facilities, Launch Centers, or Test Facilities in Roy, Utah. This role centers on guiding design activities, contributing to design and model reviews, and delivering comprehensive Civil/Structural facility design data packages to support complex infrastructure projects.

Overview

Location: Roy, Utah, onsite. Compensation ranges from USD 72,100 to 134,200 per year. A Bachelor’s degree is required for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate civil and structural systems design for the Sentinel infrastructure and associated facilities.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for complex civil/structural systems, including steel design drawings and concrete formwork/reinforcement drawings.
  • Evaluate structural design, selection, and engineering for modularized fabrication.
  • Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes to ensure deliverables meet requirements.
  • Participate in project design and model reviews.
  • Assess subcontractor civil/structural designs for quality and accuracy, confirming current standards are applied and integrated.
  • Support the delivery of Civil/Structural facility design Technical Data Packages, IFC packages, as-built TDPs, PDPs, interface models, and related design artifacts.
  • Contribute to structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions and resolve technical issues.
  • Develop and present design change requests, coordinate with stakeholders, and maintain configuration control of the technical baseline.
  • Identify design-driven risks and opportunities, executing mitigation or capture actions to reduce risk or realize advantages.
  • Develop and mature Civil/Structural facility designs to align with Weapon System requirements, UFC, MIL-STD, and applicable codes and regulations.

Requirements

  • Design Engineer: Bachelor's degree with 2 years of experience; 0 years with a Master’s degree.
  • Principal Design Engineer: Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience; 3 years with a Master’s degree; or 1 year with a PhD.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance at the time of application, with the most recent investigation completed within the last 5 years.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Access Programs (SAP) clearance as a condition of continued employment.
  • Experience with site development, including grading, utilities, stormwater management, operations, and property description.
  • Extensive knowledge of cost estimation for site civil improvements.
  • Expertise in project design and model reviews.
  • Experience reviewing design products, data packages, IFCs, and as-built data and models for quality and alignment with current standards.
  • Experience with structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions and resolve technical issues.
  • Civil/structural design experience on MILCON or major infrastructure/building projects.
  • Knowledge of engineering deliverables, including drawings and UFGS specifications.
  • Familiarity with AISC, ACI, IBC, and UFC codes and standards, as well as construction materials and construction techniques.
