Principal/Sr Principal Software Engineer – Data Analyst

This on-site Principal or Senior Principal Software Engineer - Data Analyst role at Northrop Grumman leads the development of enterprise data toolsets and pipelines to support cross-discipline engineering. The position requires Top Secret clearance eligibility and SAP access, with work based on-site in San Diego, California.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Head a team of engineers to design, integrate, and sustain an enterprise data toolset that serves cross-discipline engineering groups.
• Build tools that leverage large operational data sets to support maintenance of communications subsystems and advanced payload technologies.
• Collaborate across domains including Cloud & Application, Communications & Networking, Advanced Payload Technologies, Test Automation, DevSecOps, and Systems Test.
• Partner with stakeholders to design, construct, and maintain mission critical systems.
• Identify technical risks and opportunities, and proactively develop mitigation plans.
• Present team progress and achievements to senior leadership.
• Coordinate with the Product Owner to manage the product roadmap and reflect changes in customer requirements.
• Create and sustain CI/CD pipelines to ensure stability and quality throughout the software development life cycle.
• Continuously expand personal skills and maintain relevant certifications.

REQUIREMENTS

• Education and experience combinations include: a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 5 years of related engineering experience; or a Master’s degree with 3 years; or a PhD with 1 year.
• Level 4 qualifications: a Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree with 6 years; or a PhD with 4 years.
• Hands-on software development experience with Python, Java, C++, and/or MATLAB to enable exploitation of large data sets.
• Experience in at least two of the following areas:
  • Predictive trend analysis including AI/ML techniques.
  • Building and maintaining complex databases across multiple IT infrastructures.
  • Working with database technologies such as Parquet, SQL, Neo4j, Elasticsearch, or MongoDB.
  • Container management tools such as Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, Docker Swarm, Nomad, or Redhat OpenShift.
  • Automating tasks using Ansible, Bash, PowerShell, Puppet, or Python.
  • Performance monitoring tools such as Elastic Stack or Grafana.
  • Interpreting complex ICDs and drawings to construct new data structures from raw source information.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience using Atlassian tools (Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket).
  • Solid agile background, with ability to work across multiple teams and adapt as needed.
  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility, with a background investigation within the past five years or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain initial SAP access via a PAR within a reasonable timeframe to meet business needs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain subsequent SAP PARs after employment begins to fully support the statement of work.
