Job Description

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal or Senior Principal Systems Engineer to support the Sentinel program in Roy, Utah. The position requires an active DoD Secret clearance and offers a 9/80 work schedule with potential relocation assistance.

Role Overview

The role supports the Sentinel GBSD program, emphasizing use case development, requirements definition and allocation, functional decomposition, interface definition, verification and validation, and requirements traceability. Collaboration with program IPTs and stakeholders drives the creation and maturation of architecture content for large-scale programs while MBSE and system modeling remain central to the workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Join the Sentinel program team to address use cases, requirements allocation, functional decomposition, interface definitions, verification and validation, and traceability.
  • Collaborate with program IPT counterparts to produce robust systems engineering artifacts and design documentation.
  • Partner with technical teams and stakeholders to develop and mature architecture content for large programs.
  • Develop and ensure system requirements are properly represented within the model and related artifacts.
  • Construct system architecture using Cameo Enterprise Architecture across behavioral, structural, and analytical perspectives.
  • Contribute to development, management, and analysis of system requirements.
  • Establish unified modeling techniques, procedures, and processes for model development, tool integration, and cross-team collaboration.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship with an active DoD Secret Clearance, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last six years.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable timeframe as determined by the company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field from an accredited university, with 5 years of experience for a bachelor’s degree, 3 years with a master’s, or 1 year with a PhD.
  • 1+ year of experience developing or reviewing requirements in DOORS or a similar tool.
  • 1+ year of experience in ICBM (MMIII or Sentinel) or related complex aerospace/defense systems.
  • 1+ year experience working in team environments with leadership responsibilities.
  • 1+ year experience creating, updating, and maintaining system performance documentation.
  • 2+ years of requirements management, analysis, and allocations.
  • 2+ years of Model-Based Engineering / MBSE experience with tools such as Cameo, Rhapsody, or MagicDRAW.
  • 2+ years of experience in one or more of the following domains: C2, physical security, cybersecurity, NC3, communications systems, facility design, or military aerospace development (eg, Sentinel, MM III, B-2, B-21).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience developing or reviewing requirements within DOORS or a similar tool.

  • 1+ year of experience creating, updating, and maintaining system performance documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Basic Qualifications

This requisition may be filled at either the Principal Systems Engineer level (T-03) or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer level (T-04). In addition to the clearance and SAP requirements below, applicants should meet the following:

  • U.S. citizenship with an active DoD Secret Clearance, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last six years.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain SAP approval within a reasonable timeframe as determined by the company.

Career Level Options

  • Principal Systems Engineer — STEM bachelor’s with 5 years of experience (or 3 with a Master’s, 1 with a PhD); 1+ year DOORS experience; 1+ year ICBM or complex aerospace/defense systems; 1+ year leadership; 1+ year system performance documentation.
  • Sr. Principal Systems Engineer — STEM bachelor’s with 8 years of related experience (6 with a Master’s, 4 with a PhD); 2+ years requirements management/analysis/allocations; 2+ years MBSE with Cameo, Rhapsody or MagicDRAW; 2+ years in C2, NC3, cybersecurity, or related domains.
