Principal/Sr. Principal Thermal Systems Engineer (Active TS)

Position in Redondo Beach, CA within Northrop Grumman Space Sector focused on leading thermal-system development for spacecraft subsystems.

Responsibilities

• Define and document thermal-systems requirements for spacecraft subsystems and payloads.
• Conduct thermal analyses and develop optimized thermal-control designs to address complex engineering challenges.
• Document analyses, designs, and conclusions for internal and external stakeholders.
• Review and approve thermal-design hardware drawings for accuracy and completeness.
• Present analysis results and design details to management and customers.
• Collaborate with test engineering to plan and execute subsystem-level thermal tests and associated analyses.
• Provide feedback on potential cost and schedule impacts arising from design decisions.
• Operate with minimal technical oversight, exercising independent judgment and initiative.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated thermal solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers and share best practices in thermal engineering.

Requirements

• Principal Thermal Systems Engineer: STEM bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of engineering experience; or STEM master’s degree with 3+ years; or STEM PhD with 1+ year.
• Sr. Principal Thermal Systems Engineer: STEM bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of engineering experience; or STEM master’s degree with 6+ years; or STEM PhD with 4+ years.
• Active Top Secret clearance at time of application and ability to obtain/maintain SCI access.
• Thermal design or analysis experience for spacecraft subsystems, payloads, and directed energy systems.
• Demonstrated expertise in thermal testing, deriving and verifying thermal requirements, and advanced thermal materials.
