Sr. Software Engineer, Factory Software

Tesla is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer, Factory Software to build scalable backend systems powering manufacturing, onsite in Fremont, CA, with openness to Austin, TX.

Responsibilities

• Develop robust, maintainable backend software that addresses real world manufacturing challenges
• Own end-to-end initiatives from requirements collection and system design to implementation, testing, and production rollout
• Mentor engineers and uphold high standards of software craftsmanship across the team
• Prioritize production‑critical systems with strong validation, monitoring, and operational support
• Collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain teams
• Participate in on-call rotations, limited to about once every two months
• Directly engage with stakeholders to define requirements, scope, and implementation plans

Requirements

• A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Minimum five years of professional software development experience, eight or more years preferred
• At least one year of recent hands‑on Go experience
• Proven track record delivering large‑scale projects in Go, Java, C++, Rust, or related languages
• Strong grounding in backend fundamentals, including SQL databases, networking, and security
• Comfort with frontend technologies (HTML, JavaScript, CSS) and at least one modern framework (React, Angular, Svelte) for full‑stack work, with 1–2 years of recent experience
• Proficient in disciplined software development practices, including version control, code reviews, CI/CD, monitoring, and logging
• Excellent interpersonal communication and a proven ability to lead technical initiatives from concept to production

Compensation and Benefits

Expected compensation: USD 168,000 – 252,000 per year, plus cash and stock awards, plus benefits. Pay offered may vary based on location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
