Senior Component Design Engineer (RPA)
Job Description
System One is recruiting a Senior Component Design Engineer (RPA) for a contract role in the Bellevue, Washington area with remote work options. The engineer will oversee end-to-end design of reactor structures and components, including rotatable plug assembly equipment, guiding analyses and design reviews, and coordinating with equipment suppliers while applying nuclear industry best practices. The position offers an hourly rate ranging from USD 56 to 95 and requires a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with at least eight years of design experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop design concepts for reactor structures and components, including rotatable plug assembly equipment, from initial requirements through final design documentation.
- Consolidate inputs from Engineering and Project teams to shape equipment and component design solutions.
- Conduct scoping analyses and calculations to compare design options.
- Engage with engineering analysis activities and present design results for design reviews.
- Evaluate the technical merit of proposed solutions and lead design reviews.
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers to address design and fabrication challenges.
- Apply nuclear industry best practices to uphold high-quality engineering design and identify potential process improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required, with at least eight years of equipment or component design experience; a relevant M.S. degree counts as two years of experience.
- Extensive experience in equipment and component design, including familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III.
- Experience drafting detailed design specifications.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Proficiency in finite element stress analysis and mechanical analysis using tools such as ANSYS.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and creative thinking abilities.
- Ability to independently solve challenging problems while managing multiple tasks concurrently.
- Familiarity with CAD software, with SolidWorks preferred.
- High level of integrity, trust, and teamwork orientation.
- Preferred skills include experience with slewing ring bearings and elastomeric seals.
