Overview

This hybrid position requires in office presence three days per week. Sargent & Lundy Consulting (SLC) supports electric power projects for a diverse client base, evaluating and optimizing technical, commercial, environmental, and financial factors. The role focuses on development support, conceptual design, and owner’s engineer services for electric power generation facilities.

Location: Hybrid remote in Englewood, Colorado 80112.

Responsibilities

  • Provide development support, conceptual design, and owner’s engineer services to clients, including performing technical evaluations of electric power generation projects and facilities.
  • Support project economics, cost analysis, risk assessments, and contract development.
  • Engage in engineering design reviews, technical due diligence, project development support, and conceptual design.
  • Particular experience in mechanical design of conventional power projects is desired.
  • Travel within the United States and internationally may be required.

Essential skills and experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an ABET accredited program with a strong academic record.
  • Ten or more years of experience in the electric power industry, including detailed mechanical design of the mechanical systems of conventional power projects, specifically:
    • Simple cycle gas turbines
    • Combined cycle projects
    • Coal fired generation
    • Steam systems
    • Reciprocating engines (RICE)
  • Experience in development support and conceptual design of conventional power projects.
  • Excellent technical communication and writing skills are required.

Valued but not required skills and experience

  • Experience in technical due diligence and owner’s engineering design reviews of conventional power projects is a plus.
  • General understanding of power station operations and performance reviews is a plus.
  • General understanding of process design at electric power generation facilities is a plus.
  • Economic, cost analysis, and contract development experience is a plus.
  • A familiarity with international design codes and standards is preferred.

In this role, you may lead teams in solving engineering problems by leveraging data and modern tools such as automation and artificial intelligence to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost effective designs. Leaders in these roles often direct automation and process improvement work, guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked. Overseeing engineers who program or script to automate tasks, for example using Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel, is valued but not required. Additional learning in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields is beneficial to effectively oversee automation enabled engineering workflows.

Compensation range: $116,620.00 - $179,890.00
