Senior Transmission Line Engineer 2 - Grid
Job Description
Location: Hybrid remote in Austin, TX
Work arrangement
This role supports a hybrid schedule with three days in the office each week and two days working remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Design transmission lines in the 69 kV to 500 kV range.
- Perform cost analyses, develop design criteria, and manage routing and siting of transmission lines.
- Conduct conductor selection studies along with shielding, grounding and induction analyses.
- Collaborate with vendors and clients to specify transmission line components.
- Direct a small project team.
- Work with experienced engineers and mentor less experienced staff.
- Engage with a diverse client base and participate in client and project team meetings.
- Occasional travel for site visits and client meetings.
- Develop proposals and cost estimates for new work.

Qualifications

- Degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD software to review transmission line models.
- Seven or more years of experience as a project team member, delivering on diverse transmission assignments that include: design compliant with code requirements, cost estimate development, schedule creation and coordination, preparation of procurement specifications for transmission line materials and construction, and liaison with construction teams.
- Knowledge to verify and review right of way requirements, conductor sag/tension, transmission line plan and profile drawings, and construction documents.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles used to produce technical plans, drawings, and models.
- Experience writing and providing support documentation for engineering calculations.
- Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
Valued but not required skills and experience
- Current professional engineer license or ability to obtain one within one year.
- Experience developing engineering proposals and cost estimates.
- Experience with scheduling.
- Proficiency with any of the following programs: PLS-TOWER, SAG10, LPILE, MFAD, ArcGIS, CDEGS, AutoCAD, MicroStation.

In this role, you may lead others who utilize modern tools. You are expected to guide engineers in moving engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost effective designs. Leaders in these roles often direct automation and process improvement efforts, for example by automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, or generating design documentation, while ensuring results are verified. Overseeing engineers who program or script (for example, Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel) to automate tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required. We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.

Compensation
Compensation Range: $95,840.00 - $147,870.00
