Senior Transmission Line Engineer 2 - Grid
Job Description
Hybrid remote position in Austin, TX for a Senior Transmission Line Engineer 2 - Grid at Sargent & Lundy, focusing on design and analysis of high-voltage transmission lines.
Responsibilities
- Design transmission lines in the 69 kV to 500 kV range
- Perform cost analyses and develop design criteria
- Route and site transmission lines and conduct conductor selection studies
- Conduct shielding, grounding, and induction assessments
- Collaborate with vendors and clients to specify transmission line components
- Direct a small project team and mentor less experienced staff
- Engage with a diverse client base and coordinate with other project teams
- Occasionally travel for site visits and client meetings
- Develop proposals and cost estimates for new work
Requirements
- ABET-accredited engineering degree required
- Proficiency in PLS-CADD to review transmission line models
- Seven or more years as part of a project team on diverse transmission assignments, including design with code requirements, cost estimate development, schedule creation and coordination, preparation of procurement specifications for materials, and liaison with construction/installation
- Ability to verify right-of-way requirements, conductor sag/tension checks, and plan/profile drawings and construction documents
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for producing technical plans, drawings, and models
- Experience writing and supporting engineering calculations
- Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318
- Proficiency in MS Office applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail

- Lead teams in moving engineering problems from issue to solution by leveraging data and modern tools, including automation and AI, to improve workflows and deliver cost effective designs
- Direct automation and process-improvement efforts, such as automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, and generating design documentation, while guiding how AI or agentic AI tools are used and ensuring results are checked
- Oversee engineers who program or script (for example in Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs
